Political system in Poland

Poland is a parliamentary republic. The President of the Republic is elected by direct universal suffrage for five years. He is the head of Polish state: appoints the prime minister and has a veto that can not belifted by the Lower House (The Sejm)) that a qualified majority of three-fifths. The Président of the Republic is the guarantor of the state institutions.


The President of the Council of Ministers, generally referred to as the Prime Minister, is the head of government of the country. Responsible to Parliament for the actions of his office, he conducte the affairs of the nation. The Parliament of the Republic is composed of two chambers: the Lower House (called the Sejm), composed of 460 members and the Senate (Senat) consisting of 100 seats.
